Geometry B (Spring 2027)

In this course, deductive and inductive reasoning are emphasized, while students apply problem-solving techniques to real-world problems. Students explore quadrilaterals and circles and learn how an object is transformed, as well as how to represent that transformation algebraically and geometrically. Students calculate area and volume of two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects.

Major topics include:

Quadrilaterals

Transformations

Circles

Area

Volume

Probability

Students learn through online lesson activities, videos, interactive activities, and class discussions. Each module includes lessons that conclude with a brief quiz as well as a module exam. The course contains a cumulative final exam.

This course uses content from Accelerate Education taught by a VHS Learning instructor who is certified in their content area and who follows VHS Learning policies. The course will be hosted in the Buzz learning management system.

Course Objectives

Course Essential Questions:

  • What makes quadrilaterals different from other polygons, and how does their geometry compare?
  • When are shapes similar, and how can we use equations to identify and analyze these relationships?
  • How can we visually represent lines and shapes changing, and what information can graphs reveal?
  • How are triangles and circles connected, and how do trigonometric functions unlock their hidden relationships?
  • What problems can we solve using the combination of geometry and trigonometry?
  • How do we approach and solve equations involving different types of geometric shapes, and what strategies can we apply effectively?
  • How can we harness geometric tools like lines, angles, and shapes to think logically and reason through problems?

Course Learning Objectives:

  • Compare and contrast the properties of quadrilaterals, polygons and similar figures, including their equations and problem-solving methods.
  • Graph the transformations of lines and figures.
  • Use trigonometric functions to solve problems involving triangles and circles.
  • Connect various geometric tools and concepts to logical reasoning and problem solving.
